Midnight Farm's Expansion Plans for 2010 & 2011
In 2010 over 400 special needs adults and children participated in Midnight Farm's therapeutic riding programs, summer camps, day services, field trips, or in one of many special events, yet the demand for Midnight Farm continues to rise! Across the next two years, we intend to develop a micro-farm and horticultural therapy program; add a farm home;
build more recreational amenities; and improve accessibility.
The Green Thumb Project {GTP} We hope to fully utilize our greenhouse and have outside gardening this summer too and eventually implement specialty crop farming
in high tunnels (like berries and tomatoes). This will require more fund raising before we can implement. We currently provide therapeutic and pre-vocational horticulture classes/activities and eventually plan to offer some employment opportunities in this area too when we are producing on a larger scale. We plan to have event sales of our flowers/produce (e.g., Spring Family Fun Day) and also sell what we grow on an ongoing basis to our "friends" (e.g., CLO employees, MNF volunteers and riders families, etc.).
We may also participate in some local Farmers' Markets and are considering a plant leasing business down the road.
