Therapeutic Riding Program
Welcome to Midnight Farm's Equestrian Program page. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us! The Midnight Farm Equestrian Program is the centerpiece of Midnight Farm. We are a PATH Intl, Premiere Accredited Center (formerly known as NARHA) and employ certified instructors to ensure that the highest safety standards are met when serving our riders. We offer a variety of *therapeutic riding classes to meet the needs of riders, ages 3 and up, with a wide range of special mental, physical and emotional challenges. Instructors address the special needs of each rider while they learn horsemanship skills and have fun!
*We also offer lessons for riders without special needs if space permits in our lesson schedule. Additional information about our Equestrian program can be found in the Midnight Farm Participant Handbook.
If you have further questions, please contact the Equestrian Program Coordinator at dionnenewton@clokan.org or call Midnight Farm at 785-979-1889. |
The Application Process
The first step in the application process is to complete the Midnight Farm Equestrian Program Online Participant Application.
To begin the application process Click here! * In addition to the application, you must also download and complete the Medical Evaluation and Signed Statement Form which requires the signature of a medical professional stating that horseback riding is an acceptable activity for the applicant. Once the application and medical forms are complete, please contact our Equestrian Program Coordinator at dionnenewton@clokan.org and we will schedule the potential new rider for an evaluation. Each potential rider will be evaluated by a certified instructor to help determine how their individual needs can best be met within our program. The evaluation helps determine class placement, horse selection and proper equipment for maximum safety and therapeutic benefit for new riders. Final class placement will not be made until after an evaluation has been completed. * If you are unable or do not wish to complete the application online, please contact us. |
The Benefits of Therapeutic Riding
Physical - The three-dimensional motion of the horse provides the rider hip, back and core action that simulates natural walking. Riding relaxes and strengthens muscles and improves body tone, posture, balance, joint mobility, and coordination.
Emotional - Contact with horses and horsemanship training provides a non-competitive setting for learning. New abilities, self-discipline, and improved concentration build self-confidence and emotional well-being. Participation in our programs can also foster a foundation of trust and emotional connection between both animals and humans alike. Social - Horseback riding nurtures a positive self-image. Riders may, for the first time in their lives, experience some independence and a sense of being part of a team. It is an opportunity for them to interact with other students and their team, building relationships that will further enhance their positive self-image. | Riding Sessions: Dates and Fees
